Parent/ Carer Code of Conduct for The Mallard Academy:

At The Mallard Academy we believe staff, parents and pupils are entitled to a safe and protective environment in which to work. Behaviour that is unsafe or will cause harassment, alarm or distress to users of the premises is contrary to the aims and values of the school.

Aims:

  • That all pupils and adults should feel safe on the school site.
  • That all members of the school community treat each other with respect.

Expectation:

  • That all adults set a good example to pupils at all times, showing them how to get along with all members of the school and the wider community.
  • That no members of staff, parents or pupils are the victims of abusive behaviour or open to threats from other adults on the school premises.
  • Physical attacks and threatening behaviour, abusive or insulting language verbal (either face to face or over the phone) or written, to staff, governors, parents and carers, pupils and other users of the school premises will not be tolerated and may result in withdrawal of permission to be on the school premises.
  • If a visitor’s conduct on school premises is deemed to be against our code of conduct including the use of offensive, threatening and aggressive or causes any form of distress or harm, they will be asked to leave the school premises and must leave at once.
  • That any sibling/young adult collecting children follows the parent code of conduct and that if this is breeched they will no longer be allowed on the school premises.

Guidelines:

Types of behaviour that are considered serious and unacceptable and will not be tolerated towards any member of the school community are as follows:

  • Shouting aggressively, either in person or over the telephone.
  • Inappropriate posting on Social Media sites ( i.e. Facebook, Twitter etc…) including posting comments that may cause emotional or reputational harm which would not be justified, particularly if the school has not yet had a chance to investigate any concern;
  • Naming children or posting any comments about children who attend The Mallard Academy;
  • Making any posts that could be deemed to be cyber-bullying;
  • Posting negative or offensive comments about staff or any other individual connected to the school.
  • Physical or verbal threats.
  • Swearing
  • Pushing, hitting, slapping, punching or kicking.
  • Racist, homophobic or sexist comments.
  • Vaping or smoking on the site
  • Wearing inappropriate clothing.
  • making video or audio recordings of any children, adults or staff members without their explicit consent.

This is not an exhaustive list but seeks to provide illustrations of such behaviour. Unacceptable behaviour may result in the Police and/or Academy Trust being informed. The academy reserves the right to take any necessary actions to ensure that members of the school community are not subjected to abuse and are kept safe.

Academy premises are private property and parents have been granted permission from the school to be on the school premises. However, in case of abuse or threats to staff, pupils or other parents, school or academy trust may ban parents from entering school.

It is also an offence under section 547 of the Education Act 1997 for any person (including a parent) to cause a nuisance or disturbance on academy premises. The police may be called to assist in removing the person concerned. School is not responsible for organising arrangements for pupils in the above circumstances. Parents/ carers will need to provide alternative arrangements for bringing children into school.

Appeal

  • Parents have the right of appeal by writing to the Chair of Governors within ten days of permission to enter the school premises being withdrawn.
  • Relationship with other policies: This policy should be read in conjunction with the school’s Safeguarding Policy, SEN Policy and the Equality Policy. It also has a close inter-relationship with the Expectations & Anti-Bullying Policy.
